Beyond the Costume: What It Means to Be an Ukrainian Cosplayer During War

Warning: English language panel!

What does it mean to continue creating when your future can change overnight?

This panel explores the reality of being a Ukrainian cosplayer during a full-scale war. I

will share how our community has learned to adapt, create, and grow despite

uncertainty becoming a part of everyday life.

We will talk about the unique challenges Ukrainian creators face: losing creative

spaces, limited access to international products and brands, rising costs, and

navigating a global community that is not always aware of the impact of continuing to

support Russia.

But above all, this panel is about resilience.

Why do we keep doing this? Why do we continue building costumes, organizing

projects, attending conventions, and pushing ourselves onto the international stage

when giving up would often seem easier?

Because cosplay has become more than a hobby. It is a form of self-expression, a way

to preserve community, and a reminder that creativity can survive even in the most

difficult circumstances.

This is a story about determination, adaptation, and the power of continuing to create

when everything around you tells you to stop.
