The tournament is held between 10:00 am and 16:00 pm on Sunday
After waiting for your turn at the game booth, you can opt-in to participate in the tournament by volunteering at the Mondocon Staff member operating the game booth.
There will be beginner and professional categories to compete in.
In the respective category the players play the same song and they compete in score.
Players are allowed to play the tournament song only once, practicing before is allowed.
To participate in the tournament players are required to give their full name and email address, these personal data will be held until the next Mondocon by the Mondocon Staff.
The prizes will be presented to the winners at the awards gala.
If you are looking for a moderately aggressive and highly creative contest this one might be interesting for you! A big bunch of pumpkins is waiting for you to carve faces (or any kind of decorations) on them.
You can join the contest individually or in teams of two. We will provide the pumpkins and the tools (knives, spoons).
You can join in at the Interactive Zone between 11:00-16:00 (until all the pumpkins have been carved) on Sunday (18th of October) of the Autumn MondoCon.
The winner will only be chosen if there are at least five competitors.

Important Participation Requirement
Only players ranked Gold IV or higher are eligible to enter the tournament.
Registration and Schedule
Registration: On-site on Saturday, until the end of Mondocon or until the maximum number of participants is reached.
Player limit: A total of 16 players can compete. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis!
Tournament time: Sunday at Mondocon, starting at 10:00 AM.
Tournament Format
A–B Group Stage
The 16 participants will be divided into two groups of 8 players each (Groups A and B).
Each group will play 2 matches, after which the highest-ranked players from the two groups, based on the points they have earned, will advance to the Finals.
Finals
The 8 best players will compete across 3 rounds, earning points based on their final placement in each match.
Prizes
At the end of the Finals, the player with the most points will win the Mondocon TFT Cup and the grand prize!
The Top 4 players in the tournament will receive valuable prizes.
Tiebreaker Rules
In the event of a tie in points, the ranking will be determined by the following factors, in order:
The players’ average score.
The highest individual match placement achieved.
The placement achieved in the most recently played match.
Tournament Rules
The following rules apply to every player participating in the tournament:
No communication, talking to, or gesturing toward players on or around the stage is allowed.
Looking at the screens/projector is STRICTLY PROHIBITED due to the broadcast delay.
Using the in-game chat is PROHIBITED.
Switching windows after the game has started is PROHIBITED.
If a player does not appear at the stage after the third call during Stage 1, they will lose their spot, and a player from the waiting list will be called up to take their place.
If a player does not appear at the stage after the third call during Stage 2, the next player from their group will take their place.
By registering for the tournament, participants agree to these rules. In case of a violation, the player will first receive a warning. After a second warning, the player will be disqualified from the tournament.
Autumn MondoCon 2026 promises to be a special event for several reasons. For one, there will be two major concerts connected to the con:
Ghibli classical music concert on Friday, featuring Azumi Inoue and her daughter.
Who-ya Extended J-rock/pop concert on Saturday, featuring the singer behind the Jujutsu Kaisen opening theme. You can read more here.
What should you know about the Ghibli concert?
The concert will take place as MondoCon’s official pre-event on October 16, Friday, starting at 5:30 PM. This is the only program connected to the con that requires a separate ticket. You can read more about this and the concert details here. The concert will feature Azumi Inoue and her daughter, Yuyu performing classic Ghibli songs you may know from films such as My Neighbor Totoro or Castle in the Sky.
You can also purchase a combined MondoCon ticket for the Friday Ghibli concert, which is valid for the Friday concert as well as both days of MondoCon.
But the concert experience does not end on Friday.
Panel discussion and mini concert on Saturday at the con
At noon on Saturday, October 17, Azumi and Yuyu will return to the MondoCon Main Stage! You can listen to a short conversation with the legendary singer, who was personally chosen by Hayao Miyazaki to bring the songs of his anime films to life with her voice.
The conversation will also be accompanied by a small mini concert: Azumi will perform the unforgettable song from My Neighbor Totoro, “My Neighbor Totoro” (Tonari no Totoro). This way, those who could not attend Friday’s concert can still enjoy part of the experience.
Meet Azumi Inoue, the legendary voice of Ghibli
Azumi Inoue originally dreamed of becoming an idol. At just 14, she reached the final round of an audition, but ultimately was not selected. Still, she did not give up on her dream: she debuted as a singer in 1983, although she had to wait a few more years for her big breakthrough.
Three years later, she won an audition that would change her life forever. She was personally chosen by Hayao Miyazaki, which led to her performing the now-legendary songs from Castle in the Sky, and later My Neighbor Totoro. Her voice became inseparably linked with the world of Studio Ghibli for generations of fans.
Decades later, however, an unexpected event interrupted her career. On August 26, 2023, the day of her 40th anniversary concert, she suffered a brain hemorrhage during the dress rehearsal. She was rushed to hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery, followed by five months of hospitalization and a long period of rehabilitation. The hemorrhage left the left side of her body paralyzed.
But Azumi did not give up this time either. In November 2024, she returned to the stage in a wheelchair, now alongside her daughter, Yuyu. More than a year after her brain hemorrhage, she once again sang in front of an audience, continuing a career whose best-known songs are now recognized around the world as Studio Ghibli classics.
Yuyu, who found her own voice at an early age
Like her mother, Yuyu is also a singer, but her path has not been an easy one either. She was only three years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia and spent 6 months in hospital. She made a full recovery after treatment.
She later recalled that period: “I developed leukemia when I was three, but I made a full recovery and was able to reach my 15th birthday. I want people who are fighting illness right now to know that there are people who recover and go on to achieve their dreams, just as I did.”
Music had been part of her life from a very early age. At the age of 5, while still in kindergarten, she performed the “Nausicaä Requiem” on her mother’s album of Ghibli songs. At the age of 6, a demo recording she made herself led to her debut on a popular music program on Japan’s public broadcaster. The song was so well received that, unusually, it continued to be aired repeatedly for six months.
Her musical career continued: a song she released in 2013 reached 600,000 views on YouTube within ten months.
Today, at 21, she not only performs alongside her mother: she fronts her own rock band, MaguroNikan while studying at a music academy. Since Azumi’s return in 2024, mother and daughter have also been performing together, allowing the story of these Ghibli songs to continue across two generations.
We all love humming the tunes of our favourite anime openings, but singing in karaoke rooms with friends or classmates is one of the most well known after school/work activities in Japan. One can explore this tradition any time at MondoCon’s karaoke room, but during the karaoke contest you also get the chance to compare your skills with other singers. Make friends, focus on having fun, enjoy some good music and let’s create a great atmosphere together!
The competition will only be held if at least 6 people register. Over 12 entries we will separate applicants into Beginner and Intermediate categories. Only solo applications are accepted. As this time the karaoke contest will also be judged by the Embassy of Japan in Hungary, contest songs must be in Japanese.
Requirements and conditions
a) Registration for the competition is by pre-registration.
The registration period is from August 7 (Friday) to September 6 (Sunday). Please select a song from the contest song list below and record yourself singing it in full. When filling out the registration form on the Mondo website you will need to upload this recording, as well.
b) The song must have an official Japanese version and the lyrics must be at least 51% Japanese. (eg. Life is Like a Boat from Bleach is not eligible because there are more English lyrics in it than Japanese.) You can access the list of eligible songs here:
You can only choose a song for the tournament from this list. You will have to sing a full length song in its original language.
Please note that the competition song list is not the same as the one we have for free karaoke.
You will be able to change your chosen song until the end of the registration period, but please keep in mind that you will have to upload a recording of that, too. In case of any issues with your registration the organizers will contact you via the e-mail you provided. c) This competition consists of 2 rounds:
Round 1: Preliminary round. You have to choose a song from the list above and sign up using the link provided. (Please do not use any slurs or swear words as your nickname as your application will be rejected.) During registration you will also have to upload your recording of the contest song.
! Your recording should include the instrumental base as well, not only the vocals that you have sung. Upload it in MP3 format and name the file with your civilian name.
After the registration period has closed, based on the jury’s assessment, applicants will be assigned to Beginner or Intermediate category. Only the 20 best entries can make it to the second round.
We will publish the names of those who will be placed in each category by October 4 at the latest. If you wish to cancel your application please let us know as soon as possible.
The MondoCon rounds will be as follows:
Round 2a: Beginner category. Time and place: 11:30, October 18 (Sunday), karaoke room.
Round 2b: Advanced category. Time and place: 14:00, October 18 (Sunday), MondoCon main stage.
The original vocals will not be playing during your performance, but you will be able to see the lyrics on a TV screen. The starting order is revealed before the competition at the venue. Anyone who does not appear on stage after being called by the presenter will unfortunately be disqualified from the competition.
In both categories, the 3 best contestants will receive a prize. The Embassy of Japan in Hungary will award one person based on their own criteria.
Candidates may be disqualified for the following reasons:
choosing a song with no karaoke/instrumental/off vocal version that’s approved by the organisers; (hence the list)
choosing a song that is not an official Japanese version;
having not uploaded a sound recording by the deadline or having digitally enhanced the recording (this does not apply to basic editing, mixing and volume adjustment, of course).
you may not enter the competition if you are a professional singer, part of the karaoke staff at MondoCon, or will appear as part of a singing-focused programme at the current convention (eg. doing a mini-concert).
