Nawoul Dance Group

The dance group was founded in 2021 by Korean traditional dancer Han Sang Eun (pronounced: Han Sang-eun). It consists of young women who have been deeply studying Korean dance for more than a decade, learning directly from their Korean masters. For many years, they have been mastering and preserving the distinctive movements of Korean dance—graceful and refined, yet dynamic and powerful—while passionately safeguarding this ancient art form.

Over the years, the Nawoul (pronounced: Noul) Dance Group has continued to welcome new members. Together, they aim to promote and share this unique artistic tradition with a wider audience.

Their repertoire spans a broad spectrum of Korean dance, ranging from classical and ancient shamanistic dances to drum and sword dances, as well as modern and creative interpretations. The dancers strive to bring as many different genres of Korean dance to life as possible, presenting a colorful and diverse picture of Korea’s cultural heritage to audiences in Hungary.

The name “Nawoul (너울)” symbolizes both the harmony of the Korean words for “you” (너, neo) and “us” (우리, uri), as well as the gentle yet dynamic waves of the sea (너울, a descriptive Korean term). These flowing waves reflect the characteristic movements of the dancers.

The group will also host a mini-workshop at the convention, where they will talk about the final dance in their performance. If any props or traditional implements are used during the dance, audience members will have the opportunity to try them out themselves.
