Musical Karaoke Contest

Always dreamed of testing your singing skills on stage, but doing it in Japanese seems a bit scary? Our musical karaoke competition might just be the thing for you!

At this summer’s MondoCon you can pick your contest piece from a pool of animated and live action musicals’ songs, such as Hazbin Hotel, Epic the Musical, Kpop Demon Hunters or your favourite Disney movies. The song’s language can be either English or Hungarian.

Criteria:

  • The song must originate from some kind of musical, be it animated, IRL, or somewhere in-between
  • You will have to sing an official English or Hungarian version, fan translations are not allowed
  • Song length must be between 2 and 6 minutes
  • Songs with lyrics containing swears or slurs are not allowed
  • Songs must be picked either from https://www.karaoke-version.com/ or this list: [Contest KFNs]
  • You must perform your song solo. Group entries will not be accepted this time around.

Upon successful application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from the organizers. In case of any problems with your application we will contact you with the details and ask you to resubmit.

If you are unsure whether your chosen song fits the criteria or have any other questions or requests, feel free to reach out to us at versenyek@mondocon.hu

Registration

You will be able to pre-register for the contest between 20th May and 5th of July at tickets.mondocon.hu. This time we will not ask for a voice recording, you only need to provide your name, e-mail address and the chosen song’s details.

The minimum number of participants for this competition is 5 people, while the maximum is 20. If not all 20 spots are filled during pre-registration, you will be able to register in person at the venue.

You may not take part in the karaoke contest if you are a professional singer or will appear as part of a singing-focused programme at the current convention (eg. doing a mini-concert).

What to expect

The contest will take place at 12:00 on Saturday, 11th of July in the karaoke room. You will be called to the stage to perform one by one, while the judges take notes.

Points will be given based on the following:

  • singing technique
  • precision (rhythm, pitch, lyrics)
  • pronunciation
  • stage presence (choreography, confidence, vibe, etc.)

Applicants will be disqualified, if they:

  • choose a song that does not fit all of the above criteria
  • do not arrive before the start of the competition
  • do not perform after being called up on the stage

The 3 best contestants will receive a prize, as well as the opportunity to perform their song on the con’s main stage Saturday afternoon.
